Olympic silver medallist Fu Haifeng and Zhu Lihua advanced into the men's doubles semifinals of badminton tournament at the 11th Chinese National Games in Qingdao on Friday.

The Guangdong pair came from one game down to beat Xie Zhongbo and Dong Xiao from Sichuan 23-25, 21-19 and 21-16 in the 63-minute match.

Fu paired with Cai Yun to win a silver medal at the Beijing Olympic Games. He was also a twice world champion in 2006 and 2009.

"Xie is very familiar with my style as we are national teammates. While Dong is a new member on the national team and is eager to prove his worth," said Fu. "All of these factors made the match very tough for us."

In the second game, Fu and Zhu trailed at 19-12 but finally managed to turn around the situation to win at 21-19.

"When we trailed 19-12, we knew we need to change our tactics, which did work," added Fu.

The pair will next meet Zheng Bo and Chai Biao from Hunan, who beat Sun Junjie and Tao Jiaming from Jiangsu 21-14, 27-25 in the quarterfinals. Zheng and Chai are both national team members.
