Chinese shuttler Bao Chunlai eased past Indonesian Sony Kuncoro into the quarterfinals in Thursday's French Super Series badminton to face last year's champion Danish Gade Peter.
Though falling behind in the first a few minutes, Bao turned into good form later and overcame veteran Sony 21-14, 21-12 within27 minutes.
"I played in ordinary condition," Bao told Xinhua, "Sony was after all a competitive player, and it’s natural for him to lead at first. I conquered difficulties and played patiently today."
When Bao mentioned his goal for this match was just winning more scores, he didn't know the once top player Gade would be his rival for the next day.
Gade beat his Japanese opponent Kenichi Tago 21-18, 21-15 in 38 minutes though it was a bit close at first. "I am very pleased about my speed," which broke the Japanese player's attacking plan, Gade said.
When asked about his confidence to secure the championship, Gade mentioned China's super Dan and Bao Chuanlai.
"Lin Dan is the favorite, the world best player, that's a guy to beat. But Bao was playing very close to Lin's standard over the past months. He was in very good shape."
"I am going to fight whatever I can," Gade added, "Tomorrow I'm going to play my outmost best to win."
