SAO PAULO, Brazil: Formula One driver Felipe Massa has gone home to convalesce after completing tests at a Sao Paulo hospital following his near-fatal July 25 accident in Hungary, his doctor here said.
The 28-year-old Brazilian, who suffered serious head injuries but is now recovering, left the Albert Einstein Hospital after staying overnight, doctor Dino Altman said.
Altman added that there was as yet no timetable for when Massa could return to racing.
The tests at the Brazilian hospital included computerized scans, magnetic resonance imaging and an eye examination by specialists who concluded "there was no need for new surgery", Altman said.
Massa received intensive medical care in Budapest's AEK Hospital for a fractured skull suffered during the qualifying race. He was allowed to leave Budapest on Monday to return to Brazil.
Massa's father, Luiz Antonio Massa, had said his son would return to his Sao Paulo home to rest as no further hospital treatment was needed.
The F1 driver has said he wants "to get back behind the wheel of a Ferrari" as soon as possible.
In the meantime, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has agreed to return from retirement to fill in for his friend at Ferrari, starting with the European Grand Prix in Valencia on Aug 23.
