French cyclist Christian Fenioux, 56, failed to break his own world record for the longest distance in one-hour ride here on Wednesday.
Fenioux rode 169 times round the National High Yield and Talent Development Center's cycle track in Mexico City. He said that the humidity on the track and in the air had set him back. Fenioux tried to break the record of 43 kilometers and 116 meters, which had been set in 1999.
"I am not content with what I did today," Fenioux said. "I expected to reach at least 43 kilometers but it was very difficult because of the weather," he told media.
He said he would return to Mexico City for a third attempt later, because this city's altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level will help make such a record.
Fenioux also holds the 500 meters tandem record with a time of 31.14 seconds set in Bolivian capital La Paz in 2005.
Mexico City is one of the favored locations for the hour record. Italy's Francesco Moser twice set new records for the event and Belgian cycling legend Eddy Merckx set the first such record here in 1972. Source: Xinhua
