Italy's Valerio Cleri made up for his 10km disappointment by winning the gold medal in the men's 25km open water event in 5hr 26min 31.6sec at the World Championships here on Saturday.

Australian Trent Grimsey took silver 19 seconds back with Vladimir Dyatchin of Russia coming in third almost three minutes down.
