Russian Anastasia Zueva broke the women's 100m backstroke world record with a time of 58.48 seconds in the semifinals of the world swimming championships on Monday.

The previous record of 58.77 was set by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry in the semifinals of the Beijing Olympics on August 16, 2008.
