American Ryan Lochte broke the world record to win the men's 200 meters individual medley gold medal at the world swimming championships on Thursday.
Lochte clocked one minute 54.10 to improve American Michael Phelps' Beijing Olympic time of 1:54.23.
Hungary's Laszlo Cseh finished second with Eric Shanteau of the United States in third place.
