Green Olympics, Hi-tech Olympics and Humanistic Olympics are the commitments made by China to the whole world for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. While Beijing is in the construction boom for the Green Olympics and Hi-tech Olympics, it also needs to get its idea of the Humanistic Olympics across, which is supposed to be the core of the three concepts.

Prof. Jin Yuanpu, Ph.D, executive director of Humanistic Olympics Studies Center, Renmin University of China

What are the cultural implications of the idea of Humanistic Olympics proposed by China, a country with a history of 5,000 years? Prof. Jin Yuanpu, executive director of Humanistic Olympics Studies Center at Beijing-based prestigious Renmin University, is making an in-depth research into that question with his colleagues.

People’s Daily Online is honored to have Prof. Jin and Dr. F. Alex Carre, Professor of Olympic Sports of the University of British Columbia, Canada and former Vice-president of Canadian Olympic Organizing Committee, to be guest speakers for the discussion of that question. Their talks will be broadcast live at 2 p.m., July 23, at:

The talks will be focused on:

the core of the Humanistic Olympics; what makes a Humanistic Olympics; the history and connotation of the concept of harmony in the Chinese and western cultures respectively; the compatibility of the idea of harmony and the Olympism; changes brought about by the concept of the Humanistic Olympics to the Olympic Games; something China can learn from the Olympism.

Readers are warmly welcome to put forward your questions before and in the course of the online interview. You can also raise your questions to Prof. Jin and Dr. F. Alex Carre.

Thank you for your attention.
