CPC members urged to fortify faith in socialism with Chinese characteristics |

The historical task set forth by the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the present era is to lead people of all ethnicities nationwide to develop socialism with Chinese characteristics. Party organizations at all levels and all Party members should work diligently to attain their common lofty ideal. So, the Party’s ideological education and especially the education of ideal and belief must take as the core content the education of the whole party in steadfastly and unflinchingly adhering to socialism with Chinese characteristics.
After it was reduced to a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society in modern times (or in the period from the mid-19th century to the May 4th movement in 1919), the Chinese nation has focused on two major historical tasks: One task is to win the national independence and people’s liberation, and the other is to attain the state’s affluence and people’s prosperity.
In the past 100-odd years, the Chinese people made the ultimate choice of socialism and, under the leadership of CPC, they waged a heroic, protracted war, established New China and the socialist system, and fulfilled the first historical task with flying colors. On this very basis, the CPC, again through arduous explorations, opened up the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics and founded the theoretical setup in this realm. Consequently, China is currently transforming a former poor and backward nation into a strong, modern socialist state with a high degree of democracy, civilization and harmony.
The nation’s development in modern times has given an eloquent proof that only socialism can save China and that only socialism with Chinese characteristics can develop China. So, it is imperative to educate CPC members with the nation’s modern history as well as the 88-year history of CPC since its inception in 1921, so as to enable them to take up more consciously the great, heavy historical task of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
By means of such Party-wide education or study, CPC members will keep raising their awareness or understanding of the Party’s basic theory, basic line and basic program for the primary stage of socialism as well as basic experience it has obtained, and will enhance their conviction and resolve to take the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics. At the same time, CPC members are urged to persist in emancipating the mind, seeking truth from facts, keeping up with the times and blazing new trails in a pioneering sprit, so that the road to socialism with Chinese characteristics they take would turn increasingly wider and more spacious.
At present, China remains in the primary stage of socialism. Therefore, the Chinese nation still has a long way to go with a lot of protracted, arduous efforts to make before it can move to a stage higher than the primary stage of socialism. And CPC members should stay ideologically prepared to work tirelessly and unremittingly in a protracted struggle for this great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Moreover, as the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the Chinese people’s own cause, it has to rely on the people for its accomplishment. In this regard, CPC officials should keep in close contact with the masses of people, play an active, exemplary role and always take the people’s fundamental interests as the starting and ending points of all their work. And CPC officials should also have people in mind at any time, rely on people in their practical, day-to-day work and do whatever they can for the people, and guide or lead them forward with ardor and zest for achieving the common lofty ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
