Protect cultural heritage to convey memories of ethnic cultures
Over the past 60 years, China has made a series of significant achievements in cultural heritage protection, including constructing a cultural heritage legal system, cultivating talented people, building museums, preserving immovable cultural relics and promoting foreign exchanges.
Cai said, "China should step up efforts and apply to list its cultural relics as world cultural heritage. China boasts a very rich cultural heritage. The purpose of applying for world cultural heritage is not merely to get a certificate, but to strengthen the all-round cultural heritage protection process so as to better display more complete cultural relics to the world."
"Intangible cultural heritage protection has been developing quickly in recent years." Mentioning intangible cultural heritage protection work, Cai was quite excited. He said, "Within less than a decade, even ordinary rural residents know about intangible cultural heritage."
So far, the State Council has published two batches totaling 1,028 national-level intangible cultural heritage items. The Ministry of Culture has nominated three batches totaling 1,488 representative inheritors of national-level intangible cultural heritage projects and four national-level cultural and ecological protection experimental areas.
Construction of intangible cultural heritage-themed museums, folk custom museums and training centers for traditional crafts is progressing steadily. Kunqu Opera, the art of playing the Guqin, a seven-stringed instrument, and Xinjiang Uygur Muqam art as well as the Changdiao or pastoral songs of the Mongolian ethnic group have been selected by the United Nations as representatives of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. 【1】 【2】 【3】 【4】
