Achieve a win-win situation in trade and build a harmonious world
Facing a trend of increasing trade frictions, China has always defended its legitimate interests with good reason and restraint. It has in recent years properly handled trade rows on coke with Europe, and on textiles with Europe and the US; and at the same time, avoiding trade wars.
By conducting all-around economic and trade cooperation, China has by now established more than 180 multilateral or bilateral joint committees with 129 countries and regions and 13 international organizations. In 2006 alone, China held 57 joint committee meetings and 40 multilateral consultations. As many as 11 free trade areas are under discussion that involve 28 countries and regions, and constitute the destination of more than one fourth of China''s total exports. Sixty-seven countries have recognized China''s market economy status.
China also was active in the formulation of international rules, and has played a constructive role in the Doha talks. It fully voiced the demands of developing countries, and established itself as a responsible, large country through real action. We passed WTO''s first trade policy assessment with a score of "A+," and recognized that our foreign aid projects really benefit the local population. In addition, we earnestly implemented the eight important measures announced at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum- all highly acclaimed by African countries.
