Time: 10:00 am, June 10, 2008 Host: PD Online Forum Guest Speakers: Ms. Jia Xijin, associate professor, Deputy Director of NGO Research Centre, School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University
Ms. Liu Hui, communication officer of the 'Strengthening Volunteerism for Development through the Beijing Olympics', a UN-China cooperative project. She is one of the two UNV volunteers selected by the Beijing Youth League to join the medical relief team to Mianyang, Sichuan, the most seriously affected area in the earthquake measuring 8.0 Richter scale.
The strong earthquake that hit Sichuan province in southwest China has caused severe loss of lives and property. The government and people have been working together on rescue, relief and reconstruction. Everyone is impressed by how people have been united and organized to help. Our discussion today is focused on how non-government organization can play a better role in building a better community.
Jia Xijin has a video interview at People's Daily Online on Nov.5,2007. Liu Hui is with a child in Jiuzhou Gym in Mianyang,a settlement for people displaced by the quake,on May 24,2008.By PD Online Forum
