The French government has set aside 83 million euros (about 114.4 million U.S. dollars) for financing 70 research and development projects presented by 40 innovation centers, the French financial daily newspaper "La Tribune" reported Tuesday.
The projects were selected after a fourth appeal calling for inter-ministerial projects "for their innovative character and economic activity they are going to generate," the French ministry of economy is quoted as saying by the newspaper.
According the same source, a fifth appeal for projects will be launched in the middle of September by the government, which approved on July 5 five new innovation centers, adding to the 66 already retained in 2005, to reinforce France's position in the field of industrial innovation.
These innovation centers assemble companies, training institutions and public or private research centers in one geographical zone around a common theme.
They mark the beginning of a new industrial policy tool aimed at boosting France's industrial innovation.
