Just a week before launch, NASA is scrambling to resolve the problem of a leaky valve in space shuttle Endeavour's crew cabin.
The problem has been traced to one of two positive pressure-relief valves, which ensure that the crew cabin does not become over-pressurized, according to NASA website updates.
Workers plan to remove and replace the faulty valve using a valve from shuttle Atlantis. This work will begin Wednesday night and be completed on Thursday. The newly installed component will be tested Thursday.
All the extra work can be completed in time for Endeavour's planned liftoff on Aug. 7, said NASA spokesman George Diller, though it will be tight. However, anything else, like unfavorable weather or mechanical problems, could also force NASA to postpone the flight to the international space station.
Currently, Endeavour is targeted for launch at 7:02 p.m. EDT (2302 GMT) on Aug. 7. This will be the first flight for Endeavour since 2002.
