Four examination centers have been set up for conducting Microsoft Office Specialist Examination (MOSE) in Nepal, local press reported on Thursday.
The MOSE, a Microsoft-certified program, helps people get Microsoft certification for desktop skills to meet the workplace requirement, The Himalayan Times reported.
It tests candidates' skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Project.
The MOSE certifies the candidates, who get through the examination, with global standard. It is beneficial for students, teachers, academic institutions, work force and the employers.
Joe Tun Sein, a consultant at the examination division of Orient Longman, India, said that 85 percent of the current jobs require computer support, and the MOSE certification will authenticate computer skills.
Tun, who is on a visit to Kathmandu, said that the certification has become mandatory for job placements in many parts of the world.
"The examination system introduced in Nepal will capacitate the Nepalis to meet the workplace prerequisite throughout the world," he said.
Tun said that about 10 centers will be set up in Nepal soon. "A minimum of 1,000 students are expected to appear in the exam before November."
The MOSE, officially launched in 1997, is providing certification services in 119 countries, including Nepal.
Microsoft has certified 4.4 million people. A total of 40,000 certificates are being distributed every month.
