Myanmar is striving to offer internet services at high speed rate in the light of daily growing internet users in the country, reported Thursday''s local Yangon Times pre-published on Wednesday.
As the number of internet users was increasing in Myanmar, the operating speed of the internet, provided by two sole service providers of the country -- the state-run Myanmar Posts and telecommunications (MPT) and the Myanmar Teleport, was dropping frequently over the past many months, resulting in difficulties for users to open their internet at a fast rate and delaying their regular work, internet users generally reflected.
Efforts are being made to expand and raise the presently used international bandwidth to initially enable users in two major cities of Yangon and Mandalay to be served at international- standard speed rate, the report said.
Myanmar obtains the internet link for use from Japan and Malaysia, the report said.
Meanwhile, a cyber city project called Yadanabon in Pyin Oo Lwin, east of Mandalay in the northern part of the country, is under rapid implementation as one of the country''s infrastructures for ambitious development of information and communications technology (ICT).
Myanmar has been launching an ICT development master plan under the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) and detailed programs to link international networks are also being carried out in accordance with the master plan drafted by the Myanmar Computer Federation.
