China's upcoming National Science Popularization Day aims to raise awareness of energy efficiency among the public, said the event's organizer on Thursday.
"We will organize more than 2,500 activities, including exhibitions, seminars and lectures," said Niu Lingjiang, director of the science popularization center under the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
The event on Sep. 15 and 16 would feature 125 caravans, acting as "mobile sci-tech museums" across the country, Niu said.
Organizers would distribute booklets and conduct scientific programs to show people how to reduce energy consumption in daily lives.
National Science Popularization Day, begun in 2003, has been fixed on the third weekend in September every year.
This year's event has the theme of "Energy and Resource Conservation, Environmental Protection, and Ensuring Safety and Health".
The government has set targets to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by 20 percent and pollutant discharges by 10 percent, while raising forest coverage from 18.2 to 20 percent by 2010.
