Sony BMG announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Nokia to make its music catalog available for customers choosing Nokia's "Comes With Music" service.
Sony BMG and Nokia announced that consumers will be able to download tracks for free to mobile devices and computers through Nokia's music store for a year.
During the one-year offer, users will be able to transfer their Comes With Music library to a PC as well as to a new Nokia handheld, but they won't be able to transfer it to iPods or other non-compatible devices. At the end of the year, users will have the choice of acquiring new music by either purchasing downloads from the Nokia Music store or joining its subscription service.
Nokia said that Comes With Music is expected to launch in the second half of 2008 on a range of its devices in selected markets.
"We think this business model will encourage users to sample a wide range of material, expand their musical tastes, and listen to more music than ever before," said Thomas Hesse, Sony BMG's President of Global Digital Business.
"Our collaboration with Sony BMG means we can offer a huge range of fantastic music from both international and local artists via Comes With Music," Tero Ojanpera, executive VP of Nokia Entertainment and Communities, said in a news announcement.
Universal Music's catalogue will also be available through the Nokia service, which was announced in December of 2007.
