The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) attaches great importance to strengthening comprehensive academic exchanges and communication with the University of Cambridge, said a CASS delegation which is on a visit here.

Accompanied by Dr Kate Pretty, pro-vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge, Li Shenming, vice president of CASS, said Thursday that he was impressed by the University's deep human culture and beautiful scenery, adding that both sides conducted effective exchanges and communication during the visit.

He said the world has entered an era of economic globalization and cultural diversification and it is necessary to continuously conduct cultural exchanges and learn from each other.

All-round academic cooperation between CASS and the University of Cambridge is of vital significance, he added.

Pretty said the University of Cambridge has academic cooperation with many of China's famous universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University.

It was important to build up a mechanism for developing regular academic cooperation with Chinese partners, Pretty said, adding that she expected to reap the rewards from the coming visit to China in August this year.

CASS was established in May 1977. So far, it has communication ties with over 200 foreign research institutes, academic groups, universities and funds. In addition, it has exchange agreements with more than 20 countries and regions.
