In 4 days (from October 17 to 20 ) after the news came out that pirated Microsoft desktop software would be black screened, the installation of WPS Office soared 50%, with net active users exceeding 100,000.
It is found in the data released by major search engine websites that the search for WPS recently increased steadily and its Baidu software ranking was up nearly by 20 positions.
"The black screen incident is more convincing than any teaching, it helps us understand why China has to develop its own essential software, because only by using software of independent owned IPR can the security of one's information be guaranteed, and you can be the real owner of your computer," Said Ni Guang, researcher of the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Mr. Ni called upon the Chinese users to switch from the pirated versions to free domestic-made authentic Office software.
