The Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Tianjin Municipality, on September 6, made an agreement to settle the nation's industrialization base for new-generation carrier rockets in the Tianjin Binhai New Area.
The new generation of carrier rockets is a major tool for ensuring China's future capability to enter space, and meets international standards of carrying capacity and reliability. The base will be a high-tech aviation center for rocket research and mass production to serve both civilian and military needs.
At a total cost of 4.5 billion yuan, the first phase of the project will commence in October of this year and continue until June 2008. When completed, the base will meet China's demands for future research and production.
