Microsoft has fired its corporate vice president and chief information officer, Stuart Scott, for violating company policies, according to media reports.
"We can confirm that Stuart Scott's employment with Microsoft has been terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement of the company.
According to Microsoft's website, Scott was responsible for the information technology infrastructure at the world's largest software maker. He reported to Kevin Turner, Microsoft's chief operating officer, who in turn reports directly to Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer.
Scott joined Microsoft in 2005, after 17 years at General Electric Co., according to Microsoft.
Microsoft General Manager Shahla Aly and Corporate Vice President Alain Crozier will assume Scott's responsibilities until a replacement is identified, according to the spokesperson.
Though the spokesman declined to give the exact reason for the dismissal, the situation shown by Microsoft's confirmation and the timing of Scott's departure is different from the usual "wants to spend more time with the family" routine.
