DreamWorks Animation SKG has chosen Intel to supply the processors for the creation of 3D movies, tossing the AMD chips the movie studio has previously been using, media reported Wednesday.

DreamWorks will use Intel's visual computing products for all of its feature films in 3D beginning in 2009, the companies said. DreamWorks Animated officials have said that the company chose Intel because of the next two chip series it has announced.

"Technology plays a significant role in enabling our artists to tell great stories. By utilizing Intel's industry-leading computing products, we will create a new and innovative way for moviegoers to experience our films in 3D," said DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg in a statement.

Intel and DreamWorks' first major collaboration will be the feature film "Monsters vs. Aliens," scheduled to hit theaters March 27, 2009.

The annoucement came as a strong blow to AMD, Intel's biggest rival. The company, which is currently passing through a rather bad period of time, has supplied the processing power for the DreamWorks' 3D authoring tools since 2005.
