The first domestic netbook model equipped with Google operating system will be unveiled in July this year. This netbook model will not be made by Google, but will merely adopt the Android operating system developed by Google. Given its low configuration, industry insiders consider the netbook to be a Google mobile phone "wearing a large straw hat".
Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies, the producer of the Google Netbook, confirmed to reporters on the afternoon of May 16 that the company has developed Google's Android operating system-based netbook, and is preparing formal production in July.
"To date, we have received orders from home and abroad, although the specific quantity of the orders is still unknown. Production output for July will be set according to actual orders." a woman from the company said.
This computer comes equipped with WiFi, a card reader and USB ports, as well as a 3G access accessory as an option, to be used with any of the networks of three Chinese operators: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.
However, the standard configuration of the computer includes a 1GB solid-state disk (SSD), and 128M or 256M of RAM. Experts pointed out that this netbook's configuration is too low and the Android itself is an operating system for mobile phones. In addition, mainstream netbooks currently available on the market usually have a hard disk capacity of around 160GB, while this computer's internal memory is similar to the internal memory available on G1, a Google mobile phone, except with a somewhat larger screen. It looks like a Google mobile phone wearing a straw hat.
Price is the biggest advantage of Google Netbook over other types of netbooks. Due to its adoption of Android, an open source Google operating system without license fees, the price of Google Netbook can be lowered to around 250 USD, or 1,700 yuan.
