Biodiversity loss is costing six percent of the world's overall income a year, according to a report by German news weekly Der Spiegel.

The destruction of flora and fauna is costing the world 2 trillion euros (3.1 trillion U.S. dollars) a year, according to the report.

"The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity", a research led by the European Union and the German Environment Ministry, will be presented Monday at the ninth conference of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Bonn.

The global conference of 191 countries is aimed at promoting international response for addressing unprecedented loss of biodiversity.

One in four mammal species, one in eight among birds, a third of amphibian creatures and 70 percent of all plant life are among the most endangered, according to a list issued by the World Conservation Union.
