Italian scientists announced on Friday a step forward in developing an early warning system to prevent tumors from forming.
The study, published in Friday's issue of the scientific journal Cell by a team of biologists at the University of Siena, shows how a complex interaction of proteins regulates the replication of DNA.
These proteins are produced by a pair of genes known to give rise to cancerous cells when they mutate.
The team of researchers, lead by microbiologist Salvatore Oliverio, said that changes in these proteins could give away a cancerous cell in the making.
According to a statement from the experts, "this represents an important step in understanding the codes and signals for a number of cellular processes so that we can intervene in case of irregularities." Source:Xinhua
