"Y Liangyou 1," a strain of super hybrid rice, produced an average yield of 859 kilograms per mu (15mu=1 hectare) in the 100-mu demonstration area, and 758 kilograms per mu in the 1000-mu demonstration area in Shangcheng county, Henan province, according to local agricultural authorities.
This indicates major progress in China's production of super hybrid rice which, experts say, is largely due to good seeds and precise measurement in sowing.
