Foreign students coming to study in China reach 162,000 last year

In 2006, a total of 162,000 students from 185 countries and regions came to study in 500 universities and scientific research institutes in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities throughout China.

At present, China has signed mutually recognized agreements in the form of diplomas, certificates and degrees, with 30 countries and regions in the world.

The number of students who came to study in China in 2006 was 3 time greater than that in 2000. The subjects thse students chose for study covered almost all the faculties and disciplines China has to offer.

Statistics show that the number of students from Asia was the highest in 2006, accounting for 74.3% of the total studying within China; while the students from Europe and America accounted for 12.7% and 9.6% of the total. Students from Africa and Australia accounted for 2.3% and 1.1%.
