Swedish energysystem expert Professor Bjorn Karlsson from Linkoping University has said that it is applicable to save electricity consumption by half and increase production by using energy saving systems.

He explained the energy saving systems at a recent ABB seminar which was held in Stockholm. The seminar discussed the issue on how to save energy by new technologies and equipments.

Karlsson said to save electric energy, one has to combine the electricity system for industrial production and the system for district heating. This way, people can use the electricity more efficiently because one can use it several times.

Karlsson further explained that electricity can be used in industrial production as its temperature is very high, but after that, the lower temperature heat can be used for district heating and the last process can be used for melting ice in the street or send it to fish pond and so on.

This kind of using electricity for several times has been done in hundreds of companies in industries in Sweden, for example, in Volvo manufacturing company, their electricity usage has been reduced by 50% by using such combined systems.

Karlsson said this way will help industries to reduce cost, too.
" We combined the city's district heating system with the Volvo engine manufacturer, then we reduce the future cost by 60 percent and then we reduced global emission by 350% because the consequence is beyond the city." said Professor Karlsson.

"In Linkoping, we are heating the whole city by the municipality waste and producing electricity and biogas for buses at the same time. The key is the leadership from the very top. The city leadership has to consider capital, labor, environment, energy and raw material. We have a lot of simulation tools that can be used anywhere. The technology is available and it is a combination of all the factors," Professor Karlsson continues to say.

He predicted that in the future, the electricity price will increase rapidly, especially in Europe. The cost to produce new power is increasing.

He said this combination of different systems can be applied in all the household too. And it is also applicable in China to cool the power plant while using that heat.

Professor Karlsson teaches 50 Chinese students at his university every year.
