Sex education needs more focus on emotional well-being: survey

A recent survey showed that Singaporeans want sex education to focus "more on emotional well-being," local media reported on Monday.

A survey done by contraceptive maker, Durex, identified these "emotional aspects of sex" as love, respect and the shared enjoyment of giving pleasure to one's partner, according to local radio 938 Live.

Many of the respondents said theses aspects were not touched upon during sex education in schools, with only 12 percent saying they were taught these aspects of sexual learning at school.

The call for a greater focus on the emotional side of sex is particularly strong among the younger generations.

More than half of those aged between 16 and 24, and 35 and 44 said they would like to have received more information on the subject.

The international survey was conducted in 26 countries to gain insight into sexual well-being and the part it plays in overall well-being.
