Bangladeshi Adviser for Health and Family Welfare, Water Resources and Religious Affairs Matiur Rahman Wednesday underscored the need for increasing the use of permanent methods of birth control to control the population in the country.
He said this while newly appointed resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFP) Arthur Erken called on him at his secretariat office, official news agency BSS reported.
Welcoming the new representative, the Adviser praised the UNFP's continuous supports in different fields including population control and improvement of reproductive health in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world with a population of over 140 million.
