Global Live Earth concerts kick off in Sydney (2) |

The Live Earth concerts are part of a campaign led by U.S.- based non-governmental organization Alliance for Climate Protection, as well as the U.K.''s Climate Group and Stop Climate Chaos bodies. Gore is the chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection.
Gore called on the audience to take a seven-point pledge to reduce their personal environmental impact and support efforts to reduce emission of global-warming gases. Australian actress Toni Collette told the audience that "It''s heartwarming to see so many people here today for the cause of going green." "I take my hat off to you all."
The audience of the Sydney concerts are mostly young, many of who wear T-shirts with slogans like "save the earth." Stars due to appear at the Sydney concert include Crowded House, Wolfmother, John Butler, Paul Kelly and Missy Higgins. Meanwhile, millions of Australians are expected to tune into the live television broadcast of the concert, which started at 11 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) and runs for 10 hours.
