A motor boat with 20 people onboard has gone missing in Tiga Isle waters, Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku, local press said Wednesday.

Local authorities said the Wahai Star boat might have encountered engine troubles when serving its routine island-to- island trips in the remote province, reported the national Antara news agency.

The boat sent a distress call at around 11:00 a.m. local time Tuesday, the last time it had a radio contact.

The local government has mobilized the search and rescue team to find the boat.
