Number of patients of cholera rises in Nepali capital |

The number of patients of cholera and gastroenteritis has gone up at and around the areas of Lalitpur sub-metropolis in Nepali capital Kathmandu Valley, the National News Agency, RSS, reported on Thursday. Around 62 out of 508 patients of diarrhea visiting hospital from June 15 to July 10 have been detected with cholera, senior Public Health Officer Rishi Prasad Lamichhane was quoted by the RSS as saying. The Public Health Office has started launching special program following the rise of the number of patients of cholera and diarrhea at and around sub-metropolis area. The office has taken initiatives to examine the quality of drinking water, to create awareness among people and to dispatch medicines to the respective health posts at the area, Lamichhane said. Likewise, the office is set to launch massive public awareness program as to prevent epidemics of cholera at the area in coordination with sub-metropolis, local social organizations and the District Education Office. The Office has started the task of examining and purifying water at stone spouts and well, the main source of drinking water in the area.
