Number of patients suffering from cholera has been increasing in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City, Nepali national news agency RSS reported on Wednesday. According to Lalitpur District Public Health Office, about 508 people reached Patan Hospital from June 15 to July 11 with complaints of gastroenteritis and 62 among them were found suffering from Cholera. Among 136 persons, who reached the hospital after the July 11, 35 were found suffering from Cholera. Senior District Public Health Officer Rishi Prasad Lamichane said though number of people, who reported to the hospital with complaints of gastroenteritis, has decreased, the ratio of patient suffering from cholera has not decreased. District Public Health Office has been carrying out special program to control the gastroenteritis and cholera in Lalitpur Sub- Metropolitan City and surrounding villages, neighboring capital Kathmandu in the south across River Bagmati.
He said task of testing contamination in drinking water sources, awareness program and supplying medicines in health centers have been completed. The office has completed process of water purification in nearly 70 wells that are located within Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City.
Similarly, the office has been carrying out public awareness program in cooperation with Sub-Metropolitan City Office, local organizations and District Education Office.
