Vietnam is likely to test domestically-produced human-use vaccines against bird flu virus strain H5N1 on 600 volunteers from August, local newspaper Young People reported Monday.
The future test of the vaccines, produced by Vietnam's No. 1 Vaccines and Biological Products Company, will be conducted in six stages lasting for six months, aiming to check their safety and effectiveness on humans. In the first stage, the test will be conducted in some 20 volunteers, said the paper. A dose of locally-made H5N1 vaccines is estimated to cost around 30,000 Vietnamese dong (nearly 1.9 U.S. dollars). Vietnam has reported five human bird flu cases since mid-May, of whom, two died and three others fully recovered, according to the Vietnamese Health Ministry.
