Some 30,000 baby fish were recently freed in the Preah Kom Peng Lake at the Cardamom Mountain range in Pursat province, official news agency AKP reported on Tuesday.

According to the provincial Fishery Office chief Pen Phannrith, the activity was part of the improvement of provincial fishery resource.

Pursat provincial governor Chhay Sareth urged the local people to join preserving fishery resource through the ban on illegal fishing practice.

This is the sixth time of baby fish being released in the province.

Preah Kom Peng Lake is the main local source of water in all seasons and has a rich diversity of biology and weeds.

Baby fish, or giant salamander, is an endangered species that needs urgent conservation.
