Vietnam has annually detected some 200,000 cancer cases in recent years, local newspaper Pioneer reported Tuesday.
The K Hospital in Hanoi capital alone, which specializes in cancer diagnosis and treatment, has annually treated 150,000 cancer patients, including 75,000 fatalities, over the past five years, the paper quoted the hospital's director Nguyen Ba Duc as saying.
Many of the patients are aged over 40. The most common cancers include lung cancer, gastric cancer, bronchial tube cancer, and liver cancer.
The infection and fatality are attributed mainly to the polluted environment and the late diagnosis of the disease.
