A 15-year-old person from Vietnam's northern Thanh Hoa province died of bird flu, the Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.
The person from Hoang Hoa district, whose specimens were tested to positive to bird flu virus strain H5 N1, died on Aug. 4, when being transported to the Tropical Disease Hospital in Hanoi capital, the agency quoted the Vietnamese Health Ministry as saying.
The person was admitted to the General Hospital of Thanh Hoa province on Aug. 2 after having fever, the agency said, noting that white-winged ducks raised by the patient's family recently died.
Vietnam reported seven human bird flu cases since mid-May, of whom four died and three others fully recovered.
The country has reported a total of 100 human cases of bird flu infections, including 46 fatalities since December 2003, said the agency.
