No signs of foot and mouth disease have been found in the Netherlands, a spokesperson for the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA) said Tuesday.
A second outbreak of foot and mouth disease was confirmed Tuesday in Britain, following the first confirmed outbreak nearby London on Friday.
The VWA has been busy since Saturday carrying out checks of livestock at the 150 companies that have been involved in about 380 livestock transports between the Netherlands and Britain since June.
Veterinarians are examining every animal for symptoms of the highly contagious disease. They are also taking random blood tests. No symptoms of the disease have been found in the past few days, said the VWA spokesperson.
The last inspections are expected to be carried out on Wednesday.
The Netherlands has banned the transportation of sheep, goats, cattle and pigs as a precaution, except for those going for slaughter.
The outbreak in Britain has prompted the European Union to ban exports of cattle and animal products. Meanwhile the British mainland has been banned from exporting cattle and animal products to the rest of the 27-country bloc.
