A 28-year-old Indonesian woman who died on Tuesday in Bali was positively infected by avian influenza, the Indonesian Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

The confirmation has raised the total fatality to 84 out of 105 cases in the worst bird flu-hit country.

Two laboratory tests showed she was positively infected by the virus, an official of anti-bird flu center of the ministry named only Ningrum said.

"The test results from both research centers and Eijkman laboratories are positive," she told Xinhua.

The first bird flu-related death on Bali, the country''s center of tourist industry, has caused fears of the possible impact of the virus spread on the industry in the province that is visited by 3,000 to 5,000 foreign tourists per day.

The woman had historical contact with chickens as she worked as the animals trader, said the official.
