Encephalitis has claimed four persons in Dang district in mid-western Nepal within the last 20 days, The Himalayan Times daily reported on Saturday.

A 84-year-old person died Friday in the district, some 280 km west of Kathmandu, and became the latest victim of the disease.

Earlier, two persons died on Aug. 3 and Aug. 27 while undergoing treatment at the district hospital and a 54-year-old patient died on Aug. 17.

Four encephalitis patients are undergoing treatment, while seven persons have returned home after treatment at the district hospital.
