Vietnam has annually reported 3.5 million people contracting communicable diseases, becoming one of countries having highest infection rate in the world, according to local media on Thursday.
Only 48 out of the country's 64 cities and provinces can control communicable diseases such as flu, malaria, tuberculosis, and dengue fever, newspaper Vietnam Economic Times quoted local experts as saying.
The high rate of contracting the diseases is mainly due to high population density, changed ecological environment caused by quick urbanization, and lifestyles in some localities.
Vietnam now has a population of over 84 million.
