An intense earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted the seas south of Sumatra, Indonesia, at 0025 GMT Wednesday, the Hong Kong Observatory said in a news bulletin in Hong Kong on Wednesday morning.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the epicenter was initially determined to be
at 1.7 degrees south latitude and 99. 5 degrees east longitude, about 130 kilometers southwest of Padang, Indonesia.
