A record number of African nations will attend the 2010 Shanghai World Expo as 48 countries have confirmed their participation.
An official with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination said on Thursday that the number of participating countries and international organizations participating had reached 180 so far, overtaking the previous record held by Hanover, Germany, in 2000.
A total of 85 countries and international organizations have appointed representatives for the expo and more than 40 have consulted with the organizers on technical issues.
China aims to have 200 participating countries and international organization at the expo, the official added.
The Shanghai Expo will stage a large number of activities and expects to draw 70 million visitors, an average of 400,000 a day.
It is the first time for the event to be held in a developing country, which originated in London in 1851. Shanghai won its bid for the expo in December 2002. Source: Xinhua
