Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, said on Wednesday that China has made great efforts to abate pollution; although air pollution is still an issue for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Rogge said, "I cannot deny that air pollution still exists in Beijing; however, our Chinese friends have made great efforts to resolve this problem." He added that "their efforts will not only benefit the Beijing Olympics in August; but also will have a positive impact in the next few decades."

Rogge affirmed China's measures to reduce air pollution, such as planting trees; using natural gas to replace coal in power generation; and imposing a partial ban on motor vehicles in order to cut fuel emissions.
