At 5:18 a.m. on July 8, in Quebec, Canada, Sanqing Mountain, located in Jiangxi Province, was included on the World Heritage List during the 32nd session of the World Heritage Committee.

According to the Municipal Committee Secretary of Shangrao, Jiangxi, who was in Quebec at the time, the World Heritage Committee sang high praises for the value of Sanqing Mountain. The session concluded that Sanqing Mountain abounds with unique granite steles and peaks. Remarkable granite rock formations, combined with diversified forests, various sceneries, and striking meteorological effects have created exceptional landscapes with enchanting natural beauty. The boundaries of the scenic spot are in place, effectively protecting the natural, aesthetically pleasing landscape.

Sanqing Mountain lies in Shangrao, in northeastern Jiangxi. The mountain takes its name from the three mountain peaks Yujing (Yuqing), Yuhua (Shangqing) and Yuxu (Taiqing) lined up side-by-side with each other. After 1.4 billion years of geological evolution, tectonic erosion has sculpted the mountain into a magnificent topography of granite peak forest. Early in August 1988, Sanqing Mountain was recognized as a key national scenic spot by the State Council. In January 2007, it competed against 160 applications nationwide and became the only natural site nominated by the Chinese government for the 2008 World Natural Heritage project of the United Nations.
