The Beijing Times reported statements by Kou Xiaowei, deputy director of the audio-visual and Internet publication department of the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), at the recent Digital Publication Industry and Prospect Forum. He said profits from the booming digital publication industry would overturn the traditional golden law of "content supremacy."
The digital publication industry shows an upward trend in China. The industry includes two major fields, electronic publications and online publications, concerning mobile phone publications, online games and animation, art collections, virtual newspapers, digital music, electronic books, interactive education, digital images, and digital exhibition. During the 10th Five-Year Plan period, electronic publications increased from 2,254 to 6,152, with over 300 kinds of mobile phone newspapers, more than 1,000 online newspapers and 20,000 online periodicals. In addition, nearly ten enterprises possessed an online database. During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, the press and publication industry is expected to increase by 7% on average each year. By 2011, the online gaming market will have totals assets of RMB32.331 billion.
