Founded in 1669 during the Qing Dynasty, Tongrentang Drugstore is known all over the country for selling self-made Chinese medicines.

　　The founder of Tongrentang is Le Xianyang, who was born into a family of medicine. He was imperceptibly influenced by what he constantly saw and heard from a young age, and read a lot of books on Chinese medicine. Later he devoted himself in the research of drug prescription. The pills of Chinese medicine made by him were often exquisitely made and had remarkable curative effects. Throughout his life, Le viewed practicing and selling medicine as a lifetime cause that was useful to the whole society.

　　Through the ups and downs of several generations, Tongrentang became a state-owned enterprise in 1954. Many Chinese medicines produced by Tongrentang have become well known both at home and abroad for their unique prescription, consummate craftsmanship, and marked curative effects. In March of 1972, Beijing Tongrentang Co. Ltd was established under the Beijing Municipal Government's approval.
