A well-known century-old shoe brand name, Neiliansheng Shoe Shop was built during the reign of Emperor Xianfeng (1851-1862) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), boasting a history of more than 150 years.

The then owner was Zhao Ting, a poor farmer's child, who went to the capital to be an apprentice in a shoe shop. Within three years, he mastered the skills to make good shoes and accumulated rich managerial experiences. Later, with the investment from a high official, he opened his own shoe shop, called Neiliansheng Shoe Shop (with "Nei" meaning the royal court and "Liansheng" meaning to have a successful official career).

The name "Neiliansheng" referred to the customers Zhao focused on: the royal families and officials; therefore, he enjoyed a booming business from the very beginning. As many customers were senior officials who could not come to the shop by themselves, Zhao sent his clerks to measure his customers' sizes.

After years of service, the shop collected those official customers' sizes, styles, and personal preferences and created a notebook to record all the information. When there was an order from customer, the shop would make a pair of shoes according to the information in the notebook and send them directly to the customer. This service still exists today.
